NC IHS Exam Study Guide

Part D (ILE) exam candidates can take the exam at any testing center that offers the ILE exam, however the exam candidate, must register for the ILE on the prescribed date and time indicated in the email from IHS and listed on the exam admission card.

Candidates who have registered with the Board to take Part D of the Board’s exam will receive an email from IHS with instructions about setting up a Webassessor account and registering for the ILE after the exam registration deadline for the exam you have registered for.

Effective January 3, 2026, the cost for the ILE will increase from $260+applicable taxes
(USD) to $260+applicable taxes (USD).

Standards of Safety

The recommended Standards of Safety should include but are not limited to:
1. Adhere to current CDC and NCHALB guidelines for infection control during:
a. testing,
b. hearing aid fitting, and
c. hearing aid repairs and/or modifications
2. Adhere to proper bracing techniques for right and left ears while using:
a. Otoscope,
b. Tympanometry probe,
c. Otolight/Pen-light while illuminated (or not),
d. Impression instrument (syringe or gun),
e. Probe for real-ear measures,
f. Other instruments not listed above
3. Perform pre- and post-impression otoscopy on all clients/patients
